Job Description: Library Assistant III(Full-time, 12-month AFSCME position) Tour of Duty: Sunday, 11:45 AM-8:00 PM; Monday – Thursday 3:45-12:00 AM(Subject to Change)*(Friday and Saturday as days off)*Hours will vary slightly when classes are not in session, during final exams, and during holiday periods.

Works under the direction of the Circulation Manager to carry out the regulations and procedures of the department and to provide high quality customer service to patrons.

Provide assistance to patrons who walk up to Circulation Services, or on the phone or via email; uses the Library’s online integrated system for various circulation transactions including but not limited to registering borrowers, charging and discharging library materials, posting overdue library fines/fees, placing and removing transcript holds on the College financial system, completing loan and accounting transactions; updating library patron file; other duties include “lost” item searching, preparing books for shelving, shelf list reading, tracing and/or recalling overdue materials, providing general library assistance particularly back-up support to Reference Services, providing basic assistance with photocopiers and printers, and assisting patrons with using microfilm/fiche machines; performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Assists with training and supervising student workers.

Performs start-up and closing routines for specified shifts.

Reports problems with patrons and services to supervisor in a timely fashion.

Create and maintain library reports, including but not limited to general circulation and usage statistics.

Create and maintain other reports and spreadsheets, including but not limited to gate count statistics, student schedules and shelf-reading statistics.

Processes and completes requests to digitize media content for the library’s streaming content service, including but not limited to maintaining and editing streamed content, responding to questions about the service or directing more complex copyright questions to other staff.
